PowerHub 2023 in Review – Innovation, Impact and Adventures

Join us as we reflect on the transformative 2023 highlights of PowerHub’s dynamic year.

From insightful webinars on renewable energy asset management to impactful community initiatives, groundbreaking product launches, and significant leadership milestones, each chapter reflects our commitment to impact and innovation.

January

We started the year off by running a well-attended webinar, “How to Become Successful at Renewable Energy Asset Management”. The PowerHub team connected with industry professionals to share some wisdom on:

  • Improving workflow
  • Automating invoicing
  • Eliminating human error
  • Centralizing data
  • Boosting security
  • Collaborating and delegating effectively
  • Preventing corporate amnesia and so much more.

Don’t worry if you missed it; there might be more webinars in store for 2024!

May

The PowerHub team organized a donation drive in May to support the Shoebox Project’s Mother’s Day Campaign. We worked together to provide gift-filled shoeboxes to women experiencing homelessness.

The charity’s mission is to provide gift-filled shoeboxes to women in need, to remind them they’re not alone and are valued community members. Our contributions went towards the Shoebox Projects’ efforts to give back on Mother’s Day.

Some of the talented women on our team also went on an exciting field trip in May organized by Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE).

They visited the first major power plant on the Canadian side of the majestic Niagara River and were captivated by the immersive exhibits, restored artifacts, and interactive storytelling that awaited them there.

It was a great opportunity for members of the PowerHub team to forge new bonds, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections with individuals who share our passion for sustainability.

May was a big month for PowerHub! We also launched our Community Solar Solution. The cutting-edge solution for Community Solar invoicing and subscriber management offers:

  • Simplified Invoicing: Automate generation, review and issuance of subscriber bills. Improve accuracy and save valuable time with seamless invoicing workflows.
  • Efficient Subscriber Management: Streamline subscriber onboarding, manage subscriptions, and enhance communications through a centralized platform.
  • Analytics: Access comprehensive reporting and analytics to gain valuable insights and make data-driven decisions for optimal project performance.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Personalized dashboards and self-service options ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.

June

In June, we created an informative video to show how Powerhub is revolutionizing the industry with software that empowers asset managers to achieve unprecedented success and shape a sustainable future. We took a deep dive into what sets PowerHub apart.

The key takeaway was that PowerHub excels in easily and efficiently consolidating and displaying data from multiple sources, providing asset managers with all necessary information in one place. Whether it’s diverse SCADA systems, data acquisition systems, or accounting platforms, our solution seamlessly integrates all relevant information into one unified dashboard. This gives our clients a comprehensive view of their assets, facilitating informed decision-making and optimizing operational efficiency.

July

The team celebrated exciting news in July when Phil Obendorf was promoted from COO to CEO of PowerHub. Phil’s promotion reflected PowerHub’s continued commitment to cultivating the best talent, empowering its team, and providing best-in-class solutions for the renewable energy sector. Phil has a proven record of fostering solution-oriented teams and driving profitable business growth.

Phil was both“proud and excited to step into the CEO role at PowerHub. We have a fantastic team and a great product that has consistently proven to help our clients become more efficient and scale. As we continue our mission, I’m excited about our plans, which include expanding regions and collaborating with partners on new offerings. We aim to place data and efficiency at the center of the digital landscape to drive decisions, processes, and more value for our users.”

August

The PowerHub team embarked on a journey of learning and growth in August by attending an in-person seminar entitled “Fostering an Inclusive Workplace.” Led by Jeff St. Denis from Culture Catalyst, the session was an extension of PowerHub’s ongoing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training.

The focal points of our discussions were emotional intelligence, intercultural awareness, disability and neurodiversity, mental health, and work-life balance. Jeff’s approach to fostering understanding in these critical areas was interactive and engaging. He introduced each topic with relevant statistics and findings, enriched the discussion with memorable media clips, and encouraged team participation through group activities.

Together, we visualized an inclusive work environment by creating a digital word cloud that encapsulated what inclusivity looked, sounded, and felt like to us. Common answers such as “safe and vibrant” swiftly emerged and were highlighted as we worked.

Upon exploring the competencies of emotional intelligence, we reflected on instances in our workdays when we leveraged empathy, self-awareness, self-control, and relationship-building. At PowerHub, we value these attributes as they enable us to resonate with our customers’ concerns.

More than just a personal development seminar, this gathering allowed us to share stories and open up about discrimination experiences. It unified the PowerHub team and heightened our awareness of the unique attributes that make us a strong and diverse group.

Also, the PowerHub team learned more about Innovative Strategies and Challenges in Renewable Energy in August at the RE+ Mid-Atlantic Conference.

RE+ Mid-Atlantic Conference highlights the growth of renewable energy and the challenges faced at a national level, including interconnection, community engagement, and workforce shortages. Innovative strategies are being employed, from creative use of brownfield sites to community benefits agreements, to overcome these barriers. We returned with useful insights to share with the entire PowerHub team.

September

At PowerHub, innovation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a way of life.

We believe that to serve our customers better and continually evolve as an organization, we must be at the forefront of innovation. In September, we held our Innovation Think-Tank Session, where our team came together to brainstorm ideas that could shape the future of our company. After engaging in fruitful discussions, our team focused on the future. We pondered how PowerHub could grow and evolve, exploring groundbreaking ideas that could expand our current offerings.

October

We were inspired at the Solarplaza Asset Management Summit in Europe in October. The event spotlighted crucial industry shifts, from the dynamics of PPAs and wholesale market revenues to the growing importance of storage and repowering plants. Europe’s grid flexibility, grid connection parallels with North America, and the dominant role of Chinese modules in the market stood out. Asset managers are now leveraging AI for predictive maintenance. We came back with valuable insights to discuss with the PowerHub team.

December

Working at PowerHub got even cooler in December when we announced our new remote work program. PowerHub recognizes the need for flexibility and an effective work-life balance. This policy allows employees who have been with the company for at least one year to apply for fully remote work requests. Under this program, employees can choose to work remotely from anywhere. Many of our employees have already taken advantage of this exciting opportunity, and we expect 2024 to hold even more adventures for the PowerHub team!

Wrap Up

2023 has been a year of achievements, learning, and growth for PowerHub.

Our journey continues into 2024, where we anticipate even more adventures, innovation, and positive impact on the renewable energy landscape. We express our gratitude to our team, clients, and partners for their continued support, and we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
