Policy and market insights from Midwest Solar Expo, according to our Product Manager—Joban Sidhu

Our Product Manager Joban Sidhu attended this year’s Midwest Solar Expo.

While at the event, he gave a talk on “How technology is changing solar O&M and Asset Management.” He participated in a session on software, data and automation.

Joban says the main takeaway from the event is that digitalization is (and will continue to) play a key role in supporting energy transition in the U.S. and globally. He also notably mentioned the deep policy discussions at the event.

How state policy will impact the industry’s growth in the Midwest U.S. as a number of important issues at the state level will be addressed (or not) over the coming months.

It is an important time to stay aware of the developments in regulation and supports for the continued growth of the solar market. A key takeaway, he says, is that most experts agreed that there needs to be a certainty (above all else) at the policy level so that businesses can strategize and grow accordingly.

Joban also noted some key discussions on community solar and how it is poised to grow in New York, New Jersey, and Colorado thanks to expanded programs and significant clean energy commitments from respective state governments.

As long as the state-level policies allow for its growth, the industry will continue to experience a significant period of growth as consumers (homeowners, tenants and businesses) realize the economic benefits and cost savings community solar delivers, he says.

In all, he says it was an impactful event.
